40 Degrees of Separation represented the creation of a concept for Swissnex's SXSW17 event in Austin, Texas, as well as the development of the corresponding application and installation. When traveling from Texas to Switzerland on a map, the angle formed by a horizontal guide and a straight line made to have the shortest possible distance is 40 degrees. Using this measurement as a reference, the two cultures are represented by double images that require two different viewpoints to be discovered (lenticular image banners). Each of these images acts as an augmented reality marker.
This augmented reality application was created for Transmii Studio.
Technologies
This application was developed natively in C# using the Unity game engine. The library used for augmented reality is Vuforia.
As the use of augmented reality and animated 3D models is very resource-intensive, especially for a cell phone, particular attention was paid to optimizing the code and 3D models.
Users can also share their creations on Facebook. For this purpose, a server part has been developed in PHP to implement this functionality.
