Development, design, gamedesign and production of a virtual reality promotional game entitled "LamaSlam". The aim of the game is to promote the qualities of a VR haptic controller created by Foldaway Haptics. The company Foldaway Haptics aims to bring the sense of touch to virtual reality.
The game can be played by one or two players, and the aim is to grab different types of animal from the board in front of you, and send them into a "black hole" basket placed at your opponent's place. There are 3 animals to choose from, each worth different scores depending on their difficulty, which is adapted by the textures, resistances and vibrations rendered by the haptic joystick according to the animals seized. The animals fall if gripped too tightly, triggering a superpower specific to each one: blinding, explosion, noise.
Games are divided into one-minute rounds of increasing difficulty. The winner is the player who scores the most points.
Technologies used
This application was developed natively in C# using the Unity game engine.
As the use of virtual reality requires a very high image refresh rate (over 60 frames per second), particular attention had to be paid to optimization and performance.
A library specific to the Foldaway Haptics controller was used for interfacing.
